ESI REACH
The focus of the ESI Reach team is for academics and scholars to showcase their publications and citations through ORCID and the Intembeko ORCID hub, by assisting them to develop their individual profiles on these platforms.
Research or Academic Visibility refers to the distribution, accessibility, and acknowledgement of university faculty scholarship, particularly in terms of promotion and seniority criteria and academic rank. Historically, “visibility” was determined by printed output such as books, book chapters, and peer-reviewed journal articles, which were primarily available in university libraries. With increasing growth in online indexing of these items, this has been fast-changing. Scholarly recognition and reputation grow as a result of publications being widely referred to as reputable.
The process that our team follows
We begin by requesting and obtaining some personal details of the academic, including their CVs and lists of publications, so that we may create a profile for them on ORCID.
Once the profile is created, we then link this ORCID profile with their institutional / university email address through the Intembeko Hub.
Thereafter, we continuously update their profile on their behalf so that their earlier and recent works can be readily accessible by anyone who may be conducting research in their respective fields. This entire process is conducted with the consent of the academic.
The benefits of research visibility,
specifically through ORCID
More time for research
By allowing trusted organizations to add your research information to your ORCID record, you can spend more time conducting your research and less time managing it!
Name flexibility
ORCID helps reduce the negative consequences of name changes so you will no longer be limited to the name you used when you began your career.
Customizable visibility
ORCID links all your research together, while you control the visibility of each piece of data. Set your visibility to public to increase your discoverability!
Uniquely yours
Distinguish yourself and claim credit for your work while controlling access to your data, no matter how many people have your same (or similar) name.
Reduced admin burden
Experience greater ease as an increasing number of manuscript submissions or grant application forms can be auto-populated when you log into their systems with your ORCID, like NIH Biosketch, ScienCV, CiênciaVitae, Portuguese FCT, and OJS.
Portable profile data
Easily share your data between your record and an increasing number of funding, publications, data repositories, and other research workflows.
ORCiD
ORCID, which stands for Open Researcher and Contributor ID, is a free, unique, persistent identifier (PID) for individuals to use as they engage in research, scholarship, and innovation activities. We provide ORCID to researchers free of charge so that we may realize our vision of connecting all who participate in research, scholarship, and innovation are uniquely identified and connected to their contributions across disciplines, borders, and time.
Intembeko
The Intembeko ORCID Hub’s core function is to provide all South African ORCID Consortium members with the ability to make authoritative assertions concerning their relationship with researchers on the researcher’s ORCID record, irrespective of their size or technical resources.
The Hub supports a self-service assertion based on information learnt from the South African Identity Federation (SAFIRE)
